Interim CTO & Engineering Consultant
Independent Consultant · London, UK
After Championfy was acquired, I spent eighteen months consulting rather than taking another full-time role. Three engagements, deliberately overlapping and deliberately different: one greenfield AI platform, one engineering-culture problem, and one post-acquisition integration of the company I had just sold.
UEFN AI (Singapore) — Interim CTO
Jan 2024 – May 2024
UEFN AI was building autonomous AI agents that live inside games. I came in as interim CTO to get the foundations in place.
- Built the initial backend infrastructure and cloud environment the agents run on.
- Set up the early engineering team, hiring across two quite different profiles — AI researchers and game developers.
- Led development and launch of new gaming experiences across HTML5 and Roblox.
Tech: Python (FastAPI), MongoDB, AWS (ECS, DocumentDB).
Jelly (UK) — Software Engineer Consultant
Jul 2023 – Jul 2024, part time (3 days/week)
Jelly's problem wasn't a missing feature, it was the rate at which engineering was wearing itself out. Most of the work was about how the team built rather than what it built.
- Partnered with the founders to shape the technical hiring process, then recruited and mentored two developers through it.
- Initiated Project BrightLight, a long-term engineering effectiveness programme aimed at reducing developer fatigue, improving developer experience and lowering churn.
- Standardised CI/CD pipelines, engineering documentation and release processes so delivery stopped depending on who happened to be shipping.
Tech: Golang, NodeJS, ReactJS, PostgreSQL, AWS (SQS, Lambda).
Ampverse (Singapore) — Lead Software Engineer Consultant
Jul 2023 – Feb 2024, part time (2 days/week)
Ampverse had just acquired Championfy, and I stayed on to see the integration through properly rather than hand over a codebase and leave.
- Provided post-acquisition technical leadership, folding the Championfy products into Ampverse's wider ecosystem.
- Hired and coached a new innovation team for AmpLabs: four developers, a designer and a QA engineer.
- Led the development and launch of new products, including AmpCreds, a gaming voucher marketplace.
Tech: NodeJS, ReactJS, MySQL, Redis, AWS (SQS, Lambda).
